Here are my experiences so far using alternative therapies for arthritis pain relief:
For my birthday a good friend paid for a treatment at the Treatment Rooms and I went for Daoyin Tao.I felt much more relaxed and it helped me release much of my stress. It was a face, head and neck massage.I also went for another massage a ‘Bowen Treatment’ on my whole body and knees. The first time it worked wonderfully and I was raving about it but the second time it made both my knees swell up like balloons and thump with pain.I even tried putting flannels soaked in cider apple vinegar and holding them in place with cling film to no avail.I was beginning to wonder whether there would be anything that could help with my arthritis pain relief.
So … what to do … nothing is helping.I had heard that diet can have an enormous impact on RA, but had only done it half-heartedly.There is so much conflicting evidence with some people believing that certain methods bring them arthritis pain relief whereas other using the same treatments believe that the treatments do no work.
I decided to start with an area that I know well: aromatherapy picked up my aromatherapy book - The Fragrant Pharmacy by Valerie Ann Worwood and read the whole section on arthritis pain relief treatments twice.I decided to give it a go.
I order all the oils and a few others.A horsey friend had told me about the miracle of Neem oil, so I ordered some.I embarked on a whole diet change – gave up coffee, sugar, red meat, root vegetables and citrus fruits.I started on the detox regime of the aromatherapy.I started to drink lots of water – I had my body stats measuredin 1998 and had been told then my body was dehydrated.
At first the diet did make me feel better and overall I experienced more arthritis pain relief.Baths with Epsom salt and rock salt also helped. However, I still need a bath every morning in order to walk properly and to be free of some of the stiffness. They definitely helped, as did having the electric blanket on to warm my muscles.
I also tried Green Lipped Mussel extract at great expense bought on the Internet. It claimed miracles, but it did not give me any arthritis pain relief.I did get something else from it though: extremely bad breath!
My legs were so swollen that some riding boots I had made to measure and have worn every day since 1989 no longer fitted round my calves. After wearing my Celtic sheepskin boots that help by supporting my feet, my legs had a ridge in them half way down due to water retention and poor circulation.I also bought some Masai Barefoot Technology trainers to take the stress off my joints and they too have had an impact. They help with arthritis pain relief through the curved soles which even out the jarring on your knees when walking.I even considered buying a vibrating bed. However I found the vibrating noise disturbing and the vibrations had no effect even when increased and used in a concentrated way on the bottom of my foot of my cramp ridden leg.Still, I saved myself £4.000.
The Neem oil definitely helped. It is professed to help many of my problems, including Thrush, Gingevitis and bone disease that cause your teeth to fall out.It definitely does help with arthritis pain relief and I now take a capsule of neem every day, but it does stink.I also use a variety of aromatherapy oils to help my knees. If you would like to order these, please contact me at support@rheumor.co.uk. In the near future I want to add these to the products list.
All of these problems come from an over acid body and I am trying to stick to alkali raising food in order for my body to heal itself. I also bought for £20 Dr Gillian McKeith’s Living Food Energy.Mixing a teaspoon twice a day in water it tasted horrible but it did give me more energy and it was not acid forming. The blood has a very narrow temperature range and also a very narrow acidic range, and the body does all it can to compensate. I believe one of the symptoms of too high acid levels in the blood and body is RA.
I also did the same brand detox, over 24 hours, but I had not been eating very much prior to that.It did have an effect.I had several bouts of diarrhoea producing liquid black slurry and a stomping headache.I did feel better the next day, so can only assume my body had been full of toxins.
I am still endeavouring to find the ‘perfect’ arthritis pain relief treatment. Please contact us if you know of a product that has helped you so that we can add it to our recommendations. Also visit our products pages to find those that we believe really do help with arthritis pain relief.
